Re: Fall Forum
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11th, 2009 9:30 AM
The SOA will be holding their annual Fall Forum at the Saskatoon Inn on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11th, 2009.
This is a ONE day/ONE evening event to discuss outfitting business and compare notes in advent of the Christmas season.
There are some important items of business to conduct. The GST/PST presentation and workshop will be held on FRIDAY morning from 10:30am to 11:30am. This short one hour session led by Saskatchewan Finance and Revenue Canada should provide outfitters with all the necessary information needed to comply with these regulations. The executive will also be meeting with Sask Finance on Thursday to discuss accommodation rates for PST purposes.
Transport Canada will be present to discuss expectations for quide training and boating safety. This has been an on going concern and the SOA is expecting some definitive answers from this presentation.
The Honorable Nancy Heppner will address the Forum at the luncheon. It is expected that the Minister of the Environment will have some important announcements to make relative to the industry.
As all outfitters are aware, 2009 will probably go down as the least profitable year for Saskatchewan outfitting due to the problems with the US economy. Lynda Haverstock, president/CEO of Tourism Saskatchewan will be present to describe Tourism Saskatchewan's activities which are supportive of the industry's marketing efforts.
Friday afternoon will provide an opportunity to have the membership raise issues of concern during the open forum. Reports will be given on the activities of various committees including the executive committees, game bird, big game and fisheries. Other committees will be present to answer questions as necessary. Saskatchewan Environment will have representatives present to make presentations and field questions.
Friday evening will be capped off with a banquet and dance and, for those wishing, a black jack tournament.
All five regions of the Association, North, West Central, East Central, South East and South West will have elections for regional representatives to the SOA executive. Anyone wishing to let their name stand for one of these regional representatives should contact their regional chairmen as the SOA office. The regional chairman and their phone numbers are listed as follows:
North Region - Craig Blackmur: 668-1061
East Central - Dave Archer: 663-5053
West Central - Dave Nowlin:876-2313
South West - Don Anderson: 882-2650
South East - Elmer Henderson: 249-2144
A block of rooms is being held until Nov 9, 2009 at the Saskatoon Inn. Call 1-306-242-1440 for reservations.
Attached you will find a tentative agenda and registration form. If you have not done so please fill in and send back to the office by Nov 13th to qualify for the early registration discount.
